The typical car recovery job in the UK costs between £96 and £139. A short local tow costs £50–£90, while very short suburban hops start around £18–£32. Long-distance recovery is where costs climb — routes over 300 miles regularly reach £450–£770.

The distance premium: why location decides the bill
Car recovery is priced largely by distance and driver time, so the biggest factor in your bill isn't your car — it's how far it has to travel. Recoveries that stay inside a city are cheap and broadly consistent nationwide. It's the long hauls out of remoter regions that push prices up.
The most expensive routes in the index all share one thing: a long run into London.

How fast does help arrive?
Response times track population density. In London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield, the median driver arrives in about 25 minutes. In smaller or more rural towns — Stirling, Durham — the median stretches to around 38 minutes. Nationally, the median wait is 35 minutes.

This index reflects pay-per-use recovery: you pay for the job you need, when you need it, with no annual membership.
